Second day report, 11 February 2009
On 11 February 2009, on the occasion of the death anniversary of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya, the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) organized a function in Mavalankar Auditorium. It was a moment to pay tribute to the great ideological beacon of light Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya. There could not have been a better tribute to a person like him with these words-
Shri Ranga Hari lighting the lamp at the function. Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri L.K. Advani, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi, Shri Ramlal and Shri Tarun Vijay are also seen.
"Kalam Aj unki Jai Bol
Matribhumi hit Jivan Arpit
Karte Jo sadhak anmol"
(0! Pen, praise those inimitable writers who sacrificed their life for the sake of mother land)
Thus in an attempt to continue the legacy of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya, the SPMRF felicitated six "intellectual warriors" as the convener Shri Tarun Vijay introduced them in a jam packed auditorium. They were Shri Madhav Govind (Babu Rao) Vaidya(former Baudhik Pramukh, and first spokesperson of RSS and a well-known editor ) , Shri Ram Shankar Agnihotri, (chairman, Hindusthan Samachar and former editor, Rashtradharma and Panchjanya), Shri Sudhir Pathak( editor, Tarun Bharat),, Shri Anand Mishra 'Abhay',(editor, Rashtra Dharma) Shri Gopal Sachar (veteran journalist, J&K) and Shri Ramesh Raghunath Patange (editor Vivek, Marathi, Mumbai and an activist in the field of social samarasta-harmony with the dalit sections). These were some great writers who have enormously contributed towards a nationalist regeneration through their writings.
Five intellectual warriors felicitated

Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi, Shri L.K. Advani and Shri Rajnath Singh felicitating Shri Ramesh Raghunath Patange.
Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi, Shri L.K. Advani and Shri Rajnath Singh felicitating Shri Sudhir Pathak.
The programme was graced with the presence of some leading figures of Sangh Parivar and BJP. Shri L.K. Advani, Shri Ranga Hari, Shri Bhaiya Ji Joshi, Shri Bal Apte, Shri Rajnath Singh, Smt. Sushma Swaraj and Shri Ramlal, shared the Dias along with the Convenor of the function Shri Tarun Vijay. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, secretary of the foundation welcomed the guests and gave memorabilia to them. The foundation as a policy doesn't welcome guests with flowers as a policy because the country is facing grave terrorist threats and in a bleeding nation where workers are hacked to death because of their saffron ideology, a war room demands inspirational icons and the flowers be reserved only for Bharat Mata, said Tarun Vijay. So every guest was given a symbol of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, as a reminder of his martyrdom for the cause of motherland. The function had a huge plaque showing pictures of martyrs for ideology from Kerala to Jammu and all the guests offered flowers at the pictures of the martyrs in an emotional moment.
On this occasion the SPMRF launched three websites. First, dedicated to Shri Deendayal Upadhyaya (
www.deendayalupadhyaya.org), second dedicated to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee (
www.drsyamaprasadmookerjee.org) and the third was dedicated to the Hindutva ideology and for an
swering all the questions regarding the ideology in the light of the life and works of param pujya Shri Guruji, Dr. Mookerjee and Pt. ji (
www.theideology.org ). It was announced that all the available literature on these personalities will be uploaded on the first two websites while third website (
www.theideology.org) has been launched to invite questions regarding the nationalist ideology. The answers will be obtained from senior adhikaris and posted on the site. Thus the site may become a repository of significant question and answer store house regarding the Hindutva school of thought.
Readers from all across the world can ask their queries about Hindutva ideology and on the life, times and works on Shri M. S. Golwalkar (Shri Guru ji), Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya.
It was announced; from the stage that this programme was being watched live by thousands of people across the five continents through internet. Also, five questions from different callers and regions were addressed to different authorities present on the stage. One, Ravindra from Pune, asked Shri Bhaiya Ji Joshi as to what would be the direction of country in 2020 in the interest of ideology? And where do you see the RSS in 2020?
To this question he replied that we would be more ahead than where we are now. He said, that the Hindutva as an ideology is gaining acceptance a
ll over the world at present and as such RSS will always be in a better position for all the times to come.
A second caller, Anil, from Mumbai, asked that some 20-25 year ago it was considered politically incorrect to talk about Islamic or Christian terrorism but now it is not so, as it is now openly discussed. So, is it the time to discuss these issues in RSS
Shakhas thread bare or be told to all by the RSS?
This question was directed to Shri Ranga Hari Ji and he replied that 'we should be pragmatic while discussing these sensitive issues. We need to understand what is the real motive of religion and also this is changing now. The Christianity of 16th and 17th century is now not the same. If their history is studied, we find that in course of time they have been increasingly accepting Indian tradition of plurality, tolerance etc.
He also used the metaphor of common logic while giving his explanation. He said that common Christians in India are now accepting tolerance
and pluralism. Though, the fundamentalists carry different notions. Yet things are changing. He used the example of family planning in Goa which is now accepted by even the hard core Christians.
On Islam he opined that it is not so open and liberal. And it is all a matter of mutual dialogue. He stressed that we should be pragmatic while speaking to people and this will be the responsibility of the authorities concerned to explain it.
A third question, by Smt. Rashmita, from Kolkata, was directed to Shri Rajnath Singh, that BJP was established with a particular ideology at its core. Its present status shows that it had deviated from its core issues. Has BJP really changed from the path that was shown by stalwarts like Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya? And if it had not changed then what is the relevance of that ideology which became the core of BJP's philosophy?
To this, he replied that had BJP deviated from that ideology then we would not have been where we are today. We are still standing firm on that ideological path, shown to us by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya. BJP of today is the same ideological party that was Janasangh of yesteryears, he roared.
He said that BJP is an only party in the country that can claim to have an Indian ideology at its base, which has been propounded by leader philosophers like Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya. Pandit Ji had a greater purpose which was not limiting politics just to acquire power but to protect the civilisational contours of society and the nation. With such a legacy alone BJP has thrived so far.
On ideology, he said that– Ekatma Manav-vad (Integral Humanism), is now more relevant as a new model for economic development in a situation where capitalism and communism have failed.
He said that both the earlier alternative models of development i.e. Communism and Capitalism are money centric. While the first has evolved out of the problems that were created out of absence of money, the second was created out of love for money. Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya had stressed that a human's world requires spiritual and cultural supports along with the physical ones. Money or materialism alone doest make a society or a nation.
Hence today world needs a third alternative model of development. Only the philosophy of Ekatma Manavvad could provide this.
Shri Shivraj Kar from New York, USA, asked a fourth question. This was directed to Smt. Sushma Swaraj ji, as how in her view BJP is different from Congress, in tackling corruption?
She replied that the basic reason is that Congress is based on family tradition where every new entrant is there because of his or her links with ruling clique while BJP is miles away from this. Anyone can rise to the highest post on the sole basis of his merit. Through struggle he or she can aspire to reach to the top of BJP's hierarchy. This is not the case with Congress where Sonia, Rahul, Jyotiraditya, Sachin, Priya Dutt, Milind Deora etc. have been inducted directly to the leadership level because of there parents or family ties.
She attacked the Congress party and said that today it has been widely propagated by the Congress that it is a party of youth. But I will like to ask you to examine this claim. She said that the youth in the Congress get chance either through accident or through legacy of parents on compassionate basis (Anukampa-niyukti). But in BJP youth get position through struggle. She said that more than half of the youth in the Congress are because of compassionate ground (anukampa), which normally government provides to the family members of persons who had died while in service.
As regards corruption, she said that BJP ruled for 6 years but the Congress couldn't disclose any scam or corruption. They would have made it difficult for us to live had they found any single case against us.
But in the Congress government there have been abundant cases of corruption in every part of the 5 years they ruled. This is the difference between them and
us she said.
A fifth questioner, Shri Ravi Shankar, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, thanked Shri L.K. Advani for recognizing the importance of technology by reaching out to people through websites and blogs. He asked that his site has been started in Hindi, English and now in Urdu also but not in Gujarati or any other Indian language like Bengali or Kannada. Is there any reason for that? And when his site will be available to other Indian languages also? And what is his vision as far as technology is concerned?
He replied that the efforts are on to include other Indian languages soon. The programme that we are seeing today to mark the Punya tithi of Pt. ji is full of new technological innovations.
On the question of technology and his vision, he said "there had been many great discoveries in the world. The first was the invention of wheel, second was electricity and many more. The evolution of the internet in the 4th quarter of last century is a similar revolutionary invention. "I understand that the most important task for the coming government will be to spread the Internet facilities to every house of the country. And we will try to do this if we are given a chance by the people of the country. He added that the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) which has till aimed at increasing literacy should now also include IT literacy as an important part of this."
In the end Shri Bhaiya Ji Joshi spoke about Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya. He narrated some inspiring examples from Pandit Ji's life. He said that Pandit Ji's life story is a path maker and should be followed by all.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Secretary SPMRF, told about the vision and targets of the foundation. The Programme ended with Vande Mataram by Pratibha Jaju. Earlier famous singer Ms. Rita Chatterjee had presented a moving song of tribute to the martyrs and children of Saraswati Bal Mandir led by their music teacher Smt. Rita Datta presented inspiring patriotic songs.
